Martin W. Emery of Stevensville, MI went home to meet his maker on Friday, November 29, 2019 at the age of 68. A constant traveler throughout his life, he passed peacefully in his familial home. He was born July 15, 1951 in St. Joseph, Michigan, the son of the late Wayne and Beverly Emery.
He grew up in Stevensville, MI with his brother and sisters in a loving home. After the life altering loss of his father, young Martin became an apprentice in construction and quickly learned all that one could about the construction and development of houses. A natural entrepreneur and intelligent beyond school, he quickly developed a business acumen for not only property development but all manners of commerce. This ability to see the unseen and not yet constructed buildings drove him his entire life. Martin worked all over the country, building houses, movie sets, restaurants, and high rises, but ultimately, he returned home to his family and the place where he grew up.
Inside the heart of Martin’s country boy demeanor was a true bon vivant as he made friends, business partners and confidants wherever he went. Martin relished the finer points of life and took time on his lifelong trek across America to speak to people from all walks of life, forming bonds seldom seen in this whirlwind world. His list of friends with which he would endlessly converse included actors and celebrities as well as ordinary people he met in the course of his travels.
Martin is survived by his only son, Johnathon (Abbie) and Martin’s grandsons, Elijah and Isaac.
He is also survived by his brother and sisters: Jimmy (Caren) Emery of AZ, Vernice “Schultzie” Mock, of AZ, Pamela (Michael) Pethick of MI. Betsy (Chris) of MI. Nieces and nephews: Mike, Lori, Layne, Matthew, Tina, Wendy, and Carrie.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Wayne and Beverly Emery, a niece Missy Emery, and brother-in-law Hugh Mock.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association or a charity of choice specializing in cardiovascular research.
