Alexander Peter Maranto, 93, of Three Oaks passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at Caretel Inns of Royalton, St. Joseph.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 AM Monday, December 22 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Sawyer with Father Don Suberlak, C.R. as Celebrant. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Bridgman. Friends may meet with the family on Monday at the church from 9 AM until the time of the service. Online condolences accepted at www.PikeFH.com

Mr. Maranto was born December 11, 1915 in Chicago the son of the late Frank and Tecla (Glorioso) Maranto. He graduated from Bridgman High School in 1934 where he was on the Varsity Basketball team and they developed the “Fast Break.”. Alex served in the US Navy during WWII. He was a Torpedo Man on PT 114 in the South Pacific. On June 15, 1941 he married the former Louise DeGeorge. Alex owned and operated Maranto True Value from 1938-1980.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Louise; two sons – Charles (Maureen) Maranto of the Indianapolis area and Gregory (Joyce) Maranto of Salt Lake City area; a daughter-in-law, Dr. Inga Maranto of Los Angeles; and eight grandchildren – Adam, Paul, Alec, Anthony, Mark, Christine, Steven, and Linda Louise.

Alex was also preceded in death by a son, Frank, in 2004; six brothers and two sisters.
