Arthur Paul Grau, 82, of Stevensville passed away Sunday morning, April 10, 2011 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph.
A funeral service will be held 10 AM Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Christ Lutheran Church, 4333 Cleveland Avenue, Stevensville, with Reverend Martin Measel officiating. Friends may meet with the family on Wednesday from 6-8 PM at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy., Bridgman. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be given to the Altar Fund of Christ Lutheran Church.
Arthur was born December 23, 1928 in St. Joseph, the son of the late Erdman and Augusta (Buechner) Grau. On Sept. 18, 1954 he married Lucille Hasse. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Stevensville and was sure in his salvation in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a US Army veteran who served in Germany during the Korean Conflict in the 8077 Light Engineering Unit.
Art was a carpenter who built many custom homes in his younger years and then commercial and industrial buildings as the first carpenter hired by Fiskars Construction. He retired in December of 1991, but continued to build to the every end. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, growing african violets and collecting stamps and coins.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Lucille; sons, Dennis (Sharon) of Benton Harbor and Brian of Chelsea, Alabama; a daughter, Celeste of Lakeside; a sister, Margaret Buller and a sister-in-law, Elna Grau both of St. Joseph, many nieces and nephews including a special great niece, Victoria Dumke.
In addition to his parents, Art was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert, Herbert and Otto.
