Bernice Schmaltz

Bernice Schmaltz, 98, of Baroda went to be with her Lord on Monday, December 8, 2008 at Woodland Terrace, Bridgman.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, December 13 at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy., Bridgman with Pastor Jon Bendewald officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Bridgman. Friends may meet with the family on Saturday at the funeral home from 10 AM until the time of the service. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Woodland Terrace.

Mrs. Schmaltz was born August 21, 1910 in Oronoko Township the daughter of the late William and Mertie (Wires) Shafer. On February 10, 1929 she married Henry G. Schmaltz and he preceded her in death on July 20, 1969. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bridgman.

Survivors include three daughters-in-law – Charlotte Schmaltz of Baroda, Dollie Schmaltz of Baroda, and Barbara Schmaltz of Lowell; seven grandchildren – Lisa (Rein) Schroeder, Lynn (Gina) Schmaltz, Dennis (Leisa) Schmaltz, Mark (Mari) Schmaltz, Brian (Kim) Schmaltz, Deanna (Dale) Robson, and Eric (Janice Skiver) Schmaltz; 13 great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren..

Bernice was also preceded in death by three sons – Duane Schmaltz in 1994, Arlyn Schmaltz in 2001, and Richard Schmaltz in 2004; a granddaughter, Rita; and two brothers.
