Betty “Bette” Louise Unruh, 89, of Sawyer passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at West Woods of Bridgman.

Funeral Services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at First Congregational Church, UCC, St. Joseph, 2001 Niles Avenue, St. Joseph. Friends may meet with the family from 10 - 11AM prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 564 S. Main Street, Suite 200, Ann Arbor, MI 48104-2870 or Autism Cares Foundation, P.O. Box 180, Richboro, PA 18954.

Bette was born September 10, 1927 in Bridgeport, Ohio the daughter of the late Wadi “Wade” and Edith Mae (Wilkinson) Sams. Bette married Ralph Unruh on June 23, 1951 and together over the years they served in three UCC churches: First Congregational Church in Sawyer, Smith Memorial Congregational Church in Grand Rapids, and 1st Congregational Church in Jamestown, NY. Bette was an accomplished water colorist and exhibited her work in this area. She also played the clarinet, enjoyed sewing, and had an eye for beauty. She will always be remembered for her kind and loving nature.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years: Reverend Ralph Unruh; their children: Debra Unruh, Marta Unruh and Craig Unruh; grandchildren: Sue, Shawn, Julian and Briana; sister: Sylvia Sams; and sister-in-law: Wilma Sams.

Bette was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law: Barbara Unruh and a brother: Earl Sams.
