Brett Kandeth Updegrove

Brett Kandeth Updegrove, 47, of St. Joseph passed away on Friday, July 3, 2026 at Corewell Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.

A funeral service will be held 11 AM on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at Pike Funeral and Cremation Service, The Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy., Bridgman, MI 49106. Friends may meet with the family prior to the service from 10-11 AM on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hickory Bluff Cemetery, Stevensville. Brett was born on April 7, 1979 in Coldwater, the daughter of Neal and Lynne (Blatter) Nickerson, and later adopted by Anton Updegrove. She traveled extensively while serving nine years in the US Navy, achieving the Rank of CTA2 – 2nd Class Petty Officer. Brett was devoted to her work and loved her job. She attended The Chapel in St. Joseph. Brett was an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking and crocheting. She was happiest surrounded by her family and loved ones. Her smile was radiant and her laugh contagious. She was known as the tough and spirited sister, and deeply loved. She always had to have the last word.

Survivors include two children: Braydon Belgan and Ronan Belgan; their father, Thomas Belgan; her mother, Lynne Blatter; fiancé, David Zubik, his children: Delaney, Dane and Brodyn; siblings: Nicole (Nathan) Randell, Heather (Randy) Styles, Bert Updegrove, Robert Updegrove, Melissa (Alan Ostrander) Updegrove, and Hope (Jason) Burks; many nieces and nephews; and her faithful K-9 companions: Bane and Luna.

Brett was preceded in death by her adopted father, Anton Updegrove; birth father, Neal Nickerson; and her beloved canine companion, Apollo.
