Carmen Arlene Hora

Carmen Arlene Hora, 94, of St. Joseph passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at Pine Ridge Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Stevensville.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at Pike Funeral and Cremation Services, The Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy, Bridgman with Reverend Kenneth Babcock, officiating. Friends may meet with the family from 10-11 AM on Wednesday at the funeral home, prior to the service. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Bridgman. Carmen was born on March 11, 1929 in Three Oaks, the daughter of the late Forrest and Grace (Krumrie) Layman. On September 24, 1946 she married Albert Hora and he preceded her in death in 1994. Carmen worked in the ribbon department at Woolworth’s in Benton Harbor and as the admitting clerk at Memorial Hospital for over 20 years. Carmen and Albert owned a Christmas tree lot on Red Arrow Hwy where she was proud to be the “Christmas tree lady”. Together, her and Albert also owned and operated Al’s Bar in Union Pier.

Survivors include her son: Michael S. Hora; grandchildren: Shilin (Amilcar Perez) Hora, Nathan Hora, Amber Hora, Candice (Cailaw Taherzadeh) Hora, Jesse (Abigail Wynne) Hora, Portia (Michael Reedy) Hora; great grandchildren: Viviana, Lennon, Owen, Nellie, Anderson, and Ashlan; siblings: Dean (Cheryl) Layman, Carolyn (Kenneth) Parrigan, and Natalie Johnson.

Carmen was also preceded in death by her son: Dale Hora and brother: Keith Layman.
