Carol Eleanor Skahn

Carol Eleanor Nelson Skahn, 95, of Sawyer, MI, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025 in Bridgman, MI.

Carol was born January 17, 1930 in Chicago, IL. Her family lived in the Englewood neighborhood and attended the Englewood Mission Covenant Church. Her summers were spent at the family cottage in Shorewood Hills, MI. Carol attended North Park College and then the University of Illinois where she graduated (1952) with degrees in Mathematics and Music.

As a teenager, Carol met Harry Skahn in Bethany Beach, and they were married June 13, 1952. Their first home was in Crystal Lake, IL, where they welcomed their three sons. The family later moved to Willow Grove, PA where they raised their children. A talented pianist, Carol gave piano lessons from her home and taught music at Upper Moreland Junior High. In 1974, the family relocated to Ballwin, MO, where Carol worked as a software analyst.

In 1991, Carol moved to Sawyer, Michigan, and renovated the family cottage into a year-round home. She worked as the Office Manager at Tower Hill Camp for seven years before retiring. Carol was also an active member of Harbert Community Church.

When Carol retired, what she looked forward to most were the summers, when her sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren would travel from Virginia and Florida to stay with her. She cherished those days - reading, doing puzzles, picking blueberries, and making her famous raspberry jam with her grandchildren. Carol was a beautiful example of a godly woman, deeply admired by her family.

She is survived by her sons: Steve, Cary (Mary Ann), Eric (Nana); grandchildren: David (Caroline) Skahn, Hanna (Tim) Hill, Erik Skahn, Caroline (Jason) Alman; and great- grandchildren: Bradley Ann, Magnus, Ellie Skahn, and Eleanor, Linnea Hill.

A private graveside service will be held Friday, July 25, 2025 at West Side Cemetery in Lakeside, MI.
