Helyn was born July 18, 1950 in Benton Harbor the daughter of Harold and Josephine (Filush) Garrison. She professed that her childhood was one of great joy. With a set of grandparents living on Lake Michigan, she was always around and in the water, which she loved. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1968 and went to work at Memorial Hospital from 1969-1989. She then went into bookkeeping until she became disabled in 2003. Helyn was a proud committee member of Boy Scout Troop 546 and an avid bowler in her youth.
She is survived by husband, Warren “Butch” Ott; her son whom she loved so much, Hunter Garrison Bridwell of Grand Rapids; her mother, Josephine Garrison of St. Joseph; two sisters – Roxanne Merlino of St. Joseph and Sheri-Jo Garrison of San Jose, California; two brothers – Robert Garrison of Sawyer and Mark (Deb) Garrison of Kentucky; and two stepchildren – Daniel Ott Leoni of Stevensville and Danita Scrima of Arizona.
Helyn was preceded in death by her father, Harold Garrison, in 1995; and her big “sissy”, Barbara Jean Thar, in 2003.
Helyn never lost faith that someday she was going to get better. She is better now. Go Bears!
