Herbert Trapp

Herbert Robert Trapp, 95, of Bridgman passed away Friday, November 7, 2014 at Woodland Terrace.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 AM Monday, November 10, 2014 at Zion United Church of Christ, 9100 Church Street, Baroda, with Reverend Christopher Noffke officiating. Friends may meet with the family from 3 - 5 PM Sunday at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Highway, Bridgman. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Bridgman. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice at Home, 4025 Health Park Lane, St. Joseph, MI 49085 or Zion United Church of Christ, PO Box 10, Baroda, MI 49101.

Herbert was born November 27, 1918 in Baroda, the son of the late Robert F. and Marie H. (Nitz) Trapp. On May 5, 1951, Herbert married Clara Loraine Hafer. He served in the US Army during WWII. Herbert was an active member in the Bridgman Lion’s Club, Bridgman American Legion Post 331, and St. Joseph’s VFW. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ and had previously served on the Board. A farmer and contractor, Herb owned and operated the family business working with eave troughs and insulation. Herb retired as the housing inspector for Berrien County Health Department, and was Bridgman’s police chief in the early 1950's. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed golf. Herbert was a former Bridgman Public School Board member and could be seen at Bridgman High School football games on the chain gang.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years; children Dawn (Carl) King of Bridgman, Denise (Morris) Wilkie of Bremen, IN; six grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren.

Herbert was also preceded in death by his sisters Margaret Crowley, Adeline Nicely and Marie Heyn.
