Isabel Brown

Isabel "Billie" Brown, 98, passed from this life on Feb. 2, 2008 at Caretel Inns of Lakeland, St. Joseph.

Isabel was born January 28, 1910 in Forest Park, Ill., the fifth and youngest of John and Hilma (Olson) Nelson. Her family was active in the Austin Swedish Baptist Church and often rented a cottage in Bethany Beach.

She graduated from Proviso High School and went on to the University of Illinois at Urbana majoring in organ. After two years she transferred to the University of Chicago where she earned a degree in business.

Isabel married Dwight Brown in 1940 and they spent most of their married life in East Orange, New Jersey. After Dwight died she moved to Minot, North Dakota for fifteen years and from there to Harbert, Michigan to be near her nieces. At age 78 she bought a home on Lakewood Drive where she happily lived alone until age 92 . She spent her last years contentedly at Woodland Terrace in Bridgman. Her family and friends remember her especially fro her ready smile and laugh.
