Mr. Spangler was born March 6, 1921 in Bridgman the son of the late Joseph and Nettie (Fuller) Spangler. He served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII as a pilot/trainer and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. His passing came one day after the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. On February 2, 1946 he married the former Betty L. Ambler whom preceded him in death on March 20, 2000. Mr. Spangler resided in California until 2004. He was an architect by trade and a “Jack” of all trades. He raised his family in California and permanently relocated to the Bangor area in the year 2004 after many years driving back and forth between California and Michigan in his 1964 Ford Pickup truck affectionately named “Old Nellie Belle.” Most of his children have followed and now reside in Michigan. There was nothing that he couldn’t do. He was a father, brother, husband, friend, inventor, designer, builder, and on and on. He was truly a legend. His wisdom and understanding will be greatly missed. May he still speak to us in our dreams and our hearts forever.
Survivors include six daughters – Trisha Spangler-Sather of Loretto, Minnesota, Iris Mudgett of Honolulu, Jodi Spangler of Grand Junction, Julee Sallaz of Bangor, Janiel Fredrick of Long Beach, California, and Jacquelline Fox of Bangor; a son, Jeffery Spangler of Saugatuck; 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
