James Hausmann


James Mitchell Hausmann of Three Oaks passed away on August 29 at the age of 87. Jim was born on October 2, 1927 in Michigan City, IN the son of Theophil (Ted) and Justine (Mitchell) Hausmann. The family moved to Three Oaks in 1941 when Ted began Hausmann Motor Company. Jim and his brother Bill worked in the business which carried Pontiac, Cadillac and Rambler autos. Eventually Jim became the sole owner. In later years Jim was in sales with LeValley Olds Cadillac. After retiring from LeValley, Jim was so proud to help his younger son Tom with his business.

Jim graduated from Three Oaks High School in 1945. He married Anna Lou Drier July 16, 1949. They spent their entire 62 years of marriage in Three Oaks until Annie’s death on June 20, 2012. Jim and Annie enjoyed traveling, golfing, and spending their winters in Florida. They were long time members at Chikaming Country Club and in his younger years enjoyed flying his airplane.

Jim was proud to serve his country in the Merchant Marines where he served in France, Italy and England. He also was honored to serve the Village of Three Oaks as both councilman and mayor for several terms.

Jim is survived by his daughter Marcia A. Dinges of Stevensville; his sons; James D. (Sheryl) Hausmann of Baroda, Thomas W. (Sherri) Hausmann of Three Oaks; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brother William E. (Ilomay) Hausmann of Iverness, FL; brother-in-law Dr. William C. Drier of Waterloo, IA; sister-in-law Marian H. Drier of Mesa, AZ; and three nieces and three nephews.

In addition to Annie, Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law Ronald V. Dinges.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Harbert Community Church, 6444 Harbert Road, Sawyer, at 11 AM. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to the service from 10 - 11 AM.
