Jimmy was born on May 26, 1946 in Bowling Green, Kentucky the son of the late Cleatis and Edna (Washington) Young. On October 22, 2003 he married the former Donna Daniel. Jimmy proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army, where he trained in aircraft maintenance and was Crew Chief in a CH-47 Chinook helicopter unit. His dedication and courage earned him several commendations and medals. He remained a lifetime member of both the VFW and American Legion.

The love he had for his country shaped the man he became and guided the way he lived his life. He had a quiet pride stayed with him always, reflected in the American flag that flew faithfully outside his home as a daily reminder of the service, sacrifice, and values he held dear. The same sense of duty and devotion guided everything he did. He was loyal, humble, and a steady source of strength for those around him.

Jimmy carried that same spirit of service into every chapter of his life. He trained as a Medical First Responder, finding purpose in helping others through moments of crisis.

That same dedication and drive also shaped his professional life. Early in his career, Jimmy helped facilitate the construction of affordable housing, later focusing on revitalizing communities. He built a successful career in residential construction and property management, retiring for the first time in 2011. Never one to stay idle for long, he came out of retirement in 2015 and continued contributing his expertise until retiring once more in 2023. He had a knack for fixing just about anything and seemed to have an endless supply of practical wisdom. He took pride in solving problems, sharing his knowledge, and getting things done the right way. His work left a lasting mark on the communities he helped build and the many people who had the privilege of working alongside him.

Jimmy’s knowledge was broad and hard-earned, and he took genuine joy in sharing it. He was always ready to help, whether teaching a new skill, offering advice, or mentoring others, he did so with patience and encouragement. In doing so, he left a lasting influence on those he guided, supported, and helped grow along the way. His example lives on in the people he taught and the kindness he showed.

Jimmy enjoyed the simple things in life, like spending time in his garage tinkering with a project, mowing his lawn just the way he liked it, being outdoors taking in the world around him, and enjoying time with his family and the dogs he loved so much. His easygoing nature and quick wit were a constant part of who he was. To know Jimmy was to understand his humor. He took great pleasure in making people smile and could always be counted on for a quick remark or story to share. In all the ways that mattered, he made ordinary days brighter for the people he loved. His warmth, humor, and love will be dearly missed and forever cherished.

Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Donna; six children: Michael (Alicia) Young, Daniel (Tina) Young, Diana (John) Myers, Ricky Emery Jr., Kristy Emery, and Kaitlynn Marks; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Jimmy was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Robert.
