Karl Erik Kempe, 91 of Bethany Beach, Sawyer passed away on Monday, January 1, 2018 at Pine Ridge Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Stevensville.

Karl was born on Friday, September 17, 1926 in Chicago Heights, Illinois to the late Joseph and Ellen (Karlsson) Kempe. On May 27, 1950, Karl married Jacquelin Hilma McInrue and they shared 67 years together. Karl proudly served in the Navy on the USS Dionne DE261 and fought during WWII. He retired from the Whiting Corporation of Harvey, Illinois after over 40 years of service. In his retirement he enjoyed stain glass and carving.

Karl is survived by his wife: Jacquelin; four sons: Jon (Janice), David (Karen), Mark (Nancy), and Thomas (Karen) Kempe; twelve grandchildren; and nineteen great grandchildren.

Karl was also preceded in death by four siblings: Helen, Inga, Harold and Bertil

Memorial services will be held at 1 PM Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Harbert Community Church, 6444 Harbert Road, Harbert, MI with Reverend Jay Fast officiating. Burial will be in Fort Custer National Cemetery. Friends may meet with the family from 12 noon until the time of the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to Harbert Community Church, PO Box 197, Harbert, MI 49115.
