Kenneth Joseph Smith, 84, of Bridgman passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at his home.

A memorial service will be held 7 PM Monday, August 25 at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy., Bridgman. Friends may meet with the family from 5 PM until the time of the service on Monday at the funeral home. Burial of his cremated remains will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Battle Creek. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be given to Hospice at Home or Disabled American Veterans.

Mr. Smith was born July 5, 1924 in L’Anse, Michigan the son of the late Joseph and Florence (Denomee) Dorsky. He served in the 106th Infantry Division of the US Army during WWII, fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and was a POW. Ken was a member of the 40/8, the American Legion and the VFW. He retired from Republic Iron Mines. Ken was an avid fisherman and hunter and also enjoyed operating his Ham Radio.

Survivors include four children – Dennis Smith of New Carlisle, Indiana, Sharon (Ron) Schryer of Benton Harbor, Michael (Denise) Smith of Granger, Indiana, and Donald Smith of Bridgman; nine grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter.

Ken was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
