Margaret Elizabeth Smith

Margaret Elizabeth Smith, 65, of Sawyer passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at her home.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at Sawyer Highlands Church, 13100 Red Arrow Hwy., Sawyer, MI 49125 with Pastor Jeff Dryden officiating. Friends may meet with the family from 10-11 AM at the church on Wednesday, prior to the service. Burial will be in New Troy Cemetery. Margie was born on June 2, 1960 in Minneapolis, MN the daughter of the late Edward and Ann (Guiness) McTavish. She was a graduate of Lakeshore High School. On September 16, 1978 she married Richard Smith. She owned and operated an upholstery shop, Tack & Thimble, where she transformed countless pieces of furniture into cherished treasures.

Her hobbies also included sewing, crocheting, beading, and gardening. She loved the outdoors and was an avid birdwatcher. Above all, Margie’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who cherished each moment spent together. Her home was a welcome sanctuary filled with warmth, love, and laughter.

As a devoted Christian, Margaret lived her life with unwavering faith and integrity, encouraging others to find strength and solace in their beliefs.

Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Richard; three children: Richard (Miriel) Smith Jr., Edward (Amber) Smith, and Charles Smith; five grandchildren: Clark, Lincoln, Nora, Eliza, and Emery; brother, Michael (Deborah) McTavish; and sister, Patricia McTavish. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her but will continue to live on in our hearts and memories.

Margie was also preceded in death by a brother, Paul McTavish.
