Marie was born on September 19, 1918, in South Bend, to Henry and Edith (Haase) Fites. She married Richard C. Schmaltz in 1938. He preceded her in death in 1982. Marie loved people, gardening, embroidering, and crocheting. She also loved her Lord and read the Bible every day.
