Mary Cassidy

Mary Cassidy, 71, of Sawyer, MI, went home to God on Saturday, June 15, 2013,
surrounded by her loving family.

Visitation will be held at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Highway, Bridgman, from 5-8 on Wednesday, June 19th, with a prayer service commencing at 7:30 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial, at Our Lady Queen of Peace in Bridgman, 3903 Lake Street, will take place on Thursday, June 20th at 11 AM. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.

Mary is survived by her precious family: Children John (Ellen) Cassidy of Sawyer, Brian Cassidy of Bridgman, Colleen (Joe) Davoren of Galway, Ireland; Grandchildren Sean Cassidy, Danny Cassidy, Patrick Davoren, Gerard Davoren, Liam Davoren, and Colm Davoren; her dear brother Bill (Dorothy) Herrmann of Savannah, IL, and her many nieces, nephews, godchildren, and the Sadie Cassidy clan.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Jerry Cassidy in 1994 and brother Michael Herrmann in 2007.

Mary’s “claim to fame” was the story of her maternal grandfather, Patrick Fergus, from Castlebar, Co., Mayo, Ireland, picked by President Herbert Hoover to be a member of the “Secret Six,” who were the first agents of the FBI in the United States. Also coming from Co. Louth, Ireland, was John “Jerry” Gerard Cassidy , a man who traveled many corners of the earth. Stopping in Chicago for a family visit, on his way to Africa, he attended a dance where he met Mary. Six months later he traveled down the aisle with Mary. Mary and Jerry enjoyed thirty-three wonderful years together. Mary was a very generous and loving lady. She was gentle and kind to all of her family and friends. Mary had a very youthful spirit. She adored her family, loved laughter, and thoroughly enjoyed a good dance. Mary loved children, especially her grandchildren who were the light of her life. Mary had a close and cherished relationship with John, Brian, Colleen, and her daughter-in-law Ellen and her son-in-law Joe. She had a strong and serene faith. Mary left this world the same way she lived her life — peacefully, with love and grace.
