Nathan Lee McNees, 35, of Benton Harbor, passed away on Friday, April 16, 2026.
Nathan was born on November 13, 1990, in St. Joseph, Michigan, to Alan and Gloria (Taylor) McNees. After graduating high school, he went on to earn an associate degree in diesel mechanics after graduating Bridgman High School, a field that reflected his natural ability to fix, build, and understand anything with an engine.
On June 13, 2021, Nathan married the love of his life, Cassandra Couet. Together they shared a life centered around family. He was a devoted father to their 4 year old son, Carter, who was the light of his life. Nathan cherished every moment spent with Carter whether they were out fishing, mowing the lawn side by side, or working together in the garage. He took great pride in teaching his son, guiding him, and showing him the value of hard work and kindness.
Nathan enjoyed spending his free time fishing with his family, tinkering in the garage, and caring for the huskies he loved over the years. He and Cassandra especially enjoyed traveling locally, trying new foods, and taking in sunsets together. Sundays were often spent at his parents’ home, surrounded by family, a time he truly treasured.
He was known for his willingness to help others, especially his parents. Nathan would drop whatever he was doing to lend a hand, always showing up with a quiet strength and dependable heart. This was especially evident in his friendship with his best friend, Joseph Vergot, who called Nathan his “brother’s keeper.”
Nathan is survived by his wife, Cassandra McNees; his beloved son, Carter McNees; his parents, Alan and Gloria McNees; his brother, Christopher (Emily) McNees and their daughter Lenora; his brother Jason Miller and his father-in-law, Mark Couet.
He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Kim Couet.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at D’Agostino’s Navajo Bar & Grille, 8970 Red Arrow Highway, Bridgman. Memorial contributions may be made to support the needs of the family. Online condolences may be shared at www.PikeFH.com
Nathan will be remembered for his love of family, his hardworking nature, and the deep bond he shared with his son. His presence will be deeply missed and forever carried in the hearts of those who loved him.
