Paul Karl Strefling, 92, of Galien passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday, December 29, 2008 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sawyer with Rev. Kendall L. Schaeffer officiating. Burial will be in New Troy Cemetery. Friends may meet with the family from 2-5 PM Sunday at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy., Bridgman. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church in Sawyer.
Mr. Strefling was born February 29, 1916 in Galien the son of the late Christian and Pauline (Ertman) Strefling. On May 30, 1942 he married the former Helen Rudlaff. He belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church in Sawyer and was very active in many capacities and was especially honored to be part of its building programs. Living on the family farm all his life, Paul truly loved the land and what it could produce. He was proud that the farm was in operation for four generations. Paul was also involved with his community as a Trustee with Weesaw Township for 30 years. Paul and Helen traveled to many parts of the world, but he was always anxious to get home to his family. Paul always had a smile for his family and friends and he will be missed by all.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Helen; four children – Warren (Judy) Strefling of Galien, Carol (Phil) Falak of Baroda, Edith (Roger) Styburski of Buchanan, and Timothy Strefling of Galien; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Strefling of Galien; 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, one great great grandson; one brother, Ernest (Katie) Strefling of Lansing; and three sisters – Violet Hartline and Martha Spitzer both of Stevensville, and Clara Horak of Three Oaks.
Paul was also preceded in death by one son, Allen Strefling, in 2007; four brothers – Walter, Edward, Rhinehart and Benjamin Strefling; and two sisters – Ida Kugler and Dorothy Maerz.
