Paul Winter

Paul G. Winter, age 80 years, was called home to Heaven on Friday, March 4, 2016 after a several year long valiant fight with a rare form of leukemia. Paul was born in Merrill, Wisconsin on May 26, 1935, the son of the late Frederich and Amanda (Vogt) Winter. He married Marion J. Pauck on August 8, 1959 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill, Wisconsin. The Lord blessed them with over 56 years of marriage.

Paul's coronation service will be 11 am Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 9650 N. Church Street, Bridgman with Reverend Jon Bendewald officiating. Friends may meet with the family 4-7 pm Monday, March 7 at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy, Bridgman. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Bridgman. As an expression of sympathy memorial contributions may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church P. O. Box 26, Bridgman, MI, 49106 or Hospice at Home, 4025 Health Park Lane, St. Joseph, MI, 49085.

Paul graduated from Merrill High School in 1953 and from Concordia College, River Forest, Illinois in 1957 as a called teacher in the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. He served his Lord for five years in Aurora, Indiana, three years in Tigerton, Wisconsin, and 32 years at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Bridgman, MI. He retired in 1997 with 40 years in the teaching ministry. In addition to teaching the Lord's little lambs, he served as a Youth Leader, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School Superintendent, principal for some years, various boards, and in the Sr. Choir. He also was privileged to serve Holy Communion to shut-ins and leading home Bible studies where he could share his love for the Lord Jesus Christ.

His pride and joy was his large vegetable garden from which he provided vegetables to many friends and neighbors. He loved building toys for his grandchildren, carpentry projects around his home and for his children, and cheering at his children's and grandchildren's ball games. He was an avid Bulls and Cubs fan. He and Marion enjoyed traveling with their good friends, Wally and Annemarie, and the Schumans, going on several cruises, to Hawaii, and to various places in the United States.
