Thelma Gipson

Thelma Lorene “Lo” Gipson, 88 of Sawyer, passed away on Monday, October 20, 2014 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy, Bridgman. Friends may meet with the family one hour prior to the service from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Bridgman. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Berrien County Cancer Service, 7301 Red Arrow Hwy, Stevensville.

Lorene was born May 17, 1926 in Monette, Arkansas the daughter of the late Alonzo and Viola (Birmingham) Mendenall. On September 7, 1940 she married Delbert O. Gipson and he preceded her in death on March 18, 2000. Lorene was a member of Sawyer Highlands Church, Sawyer.

Survivors include her sons - Perry (Julie) Gipson of Union City and Thom Edwards of Bridgman; daughter-in-law - Pam Gipson of North Carolina; six grandchildren - Darold Kraklau and Holly Krieger and their mother, Ann Nelson, Jasmine and Tyler Gipson and their mother, Georgia Gipson and Kayden and Portia Gipson; a brother - Robert (Nancy) Mendenall of South Carolina.

Lorene was also preceded in death by two sons - Elvis in 1996 and Tony in 2014; three brothers, Melvin, Melton and Elvin and a sister - Erma Taylor.
