Wesley Carlson

Wesley Gustave Carlson, 96, of Bethany Beach went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM Saturday, August 30 at Bethany Beach Tabernacle, Sawyer with Rev. Jeff Dryden officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Three Oaks. Friends may meet with the family from 6-8 PM on Friday at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy., Bridgman. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be given to Sawyer Highlands Church or Forgotten Man Ministries.

Mr. Carlson was born December 8, 1911 in Chicago the son of the late Albert and Alma (Nylander) Carlson. He was married to the former Alice V. Nelson and she preceded him in death on June 28, 1995. He spent his summers at Bethany Beach until he retired in 1976 from Verson Allsteel Press Company in Chicago. He then became a full-time resident of this area. Wesley was involved with Forgotten Man Ministries and had been Choir Director at his church in Chicago as well as at Sawyer Highlands Church. During his retirement, he was active with the River Valley Senior Center and worked at River Valley High School as a Paraprofessional in the machine shop. He enjoyed playing tennis until the age of 91. Wesley dedicated his life to serving the Lord and the family rejoices with him for his gain as he joins his God, wife, daughters, and siblings but mourn their loss here on earth.

Survivors include two sons – Kenneth (Dianne) Carlson of Bridgman and Clayton (Diane) Carlson of St. Joseph; a son-in-law, John (Janet) Helin of Western Springs, Illinois; six grandchildren – Radley Helin, Holly Young, Erin Holte, Brook Carlson, Benjamin Carlson, and Emily Carlson; and one great grandson, Simon Helin.

Wesley was also preceded in death by two daughters – Karen Helin in 1990 and an infant daughter; four sisters and one brother.
